| Description | Adrenomedullin (1-12), human, was first identified in 1993 and is associated with pheochromocytoma, a tumor that originates in the adrenal medulla. AM was initially identified as a vasodilator and, as such, has the ability to relax vascular tone. Previous studies have ranked it as the most potent endogenous vasodilator peptide found in vivo. Other effects of AM include increasing cellular tolerance to oxidative stress and hypoxic damage and angiogenesis. AM is seen as a positive effect on diseases such as hypertension, myocardial infarction, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other cardiovascular diseases. |
